Interesting Article from Dinesh D’Souza

Dinesh D’Souza, author of What’s So Great About Christianity, has a rather enlightening article on Townhall.com; it is a must read for all Christian parents.

Here is an excerpt:

It seems atheists have developed a comprehensive strategy to win the minds of the next generation. The strategy can be described simply: let the religious people breed them, and we will educate them to despise their parents’ beliefs. Many people think that the secularization of the minds of our young people is the inevitable consequence of learning and maturing. In fact, it is to a large degree orchestrated by teachers and professors to promote anti-religious agendas.

Why the hostility to religion? “Faith is one of the world’s great evils, comparable to the smallpox virus but harder to eradicate,” writes Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion. “Religion is capable of driving people to such dangerous folly that faith seems to me to qualify as a kind of mental illness.”

‘Parents banned from school’s homosexual seminar’

One News Now is reporting that, “A Massachusetts pro-family activist is angered that parents were barred from observing a homosexual indoctrination seminar at a high school his child currently attends.” This, of course, is the second such event reported in the last few weeks (See this post). It used to be enough to simply say that it is sad to see something like this happen. No longer can we allow ourselves such complacency. This is not just sad; it is an all out attack on the very foundations of Christianity. As Christians, we have to confront these problems in our public schools. We can’t simply send our kids to private schools and ignore what happens elsewhere.

On the same topic of homosexuality, Matt Barber writes:

Marine General Peter Pace – decorated war hero and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff – continues to find himself fending off a vicious and unfamiliar rapid fire assault from his extreme left-flank. In recent days, the good general has been widely and unjustly vilified by America’s self-appointed thought police as they step up their unified and widespread campaign of homofascist speech enforcement.

During a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, Pace violated one of the cardinal rules of political correctness by noting that, “homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral.”

It would seem that after two thousand years of clear theological thinking on sexuality, we now find ourselves in a world where we are no longer allowed to hold to the principled approach founded in Christian doctrine and tradition from the days of the early church until now. We – as in Christians – are quickly going out of style. The scariest aspect of this issue is that the attack is not just coming from the secular world, but also from within the church. See: Episcopal council reiterates church’s support for homosexuality.

The key aspect of this issue that is ignored, however, is that it has become increasingly more clear that the family unit of a male father and a female mother is the most natural and effective social institution. Albert Mohler is reporting about this very issue as well. He writes about a book by David Blankenhorn:

In “Defining Marriage Down . . . is No Way to Save It,” published in this week’s edition of The Weekly Standard, Blankenhorn summarizes his argument. In a nutshell — marriage has been seriously weakened and is now threatened as our central social institution. Marriage has been “deinstitutionalized” through legal, cultural, ideological, and lifestyle revolutions. Proposals about same-sex marriage can come only after marriage has been seriously weakened as an institution. But, even though proponents of same-sex marriage claim to value marriage as an institution, the real impact of same-sex marriage would be the further deinstitutionalization of marriage itself.

Clearly, this issue is an enormous issue that will not only change the culture, but may well destabilize it.

From “Bong Hits 4 Jesus” to Privatization of our Schools

One News Now is reporting on an interesting court case – one where for once I actually support the ACLU. The article explains that the Supreme Court is hearing arguments on “a case involving an Alaska high school student who was suspended for ten days…for unfurling a banner that read “Bong Hits 4 Jesus.” At issue is whether school authorities violated Joseph Frederick’s free-speech rights by censoring what they perceived was a pro-drug message…” What is interesting about this case is that because the name of Jesus was also used, there are “several conservative Christian groups” also supporting the student.

The fear here is that the school is essentially asking to be able to censor any speech that is not consistent with the schools educational mission. It seems both the conservative Christian groups and the ACLU feel this is an entirely too broad of a stroke being painted by the school. I can imagine, however, that after this case is over, the ACLU will find themselves right back into their normal locale firing pod shots at Christianity. Ironically, it might be this case that will set the precedent that makes those shots a little harder to take.

A Public Matter

I suppose then I might as well use this opportunity to once again plug the need for privatization of public schools. This is not a religious issue, but a common sense issue. Government run bureaucracies never run smoothly. Why would we expect a government run school to function any better? Of course, add to this mess the state of the teacher crisis evidenced by the growing number of sexual interactions of teachers and students, the incident in Ohio where kids had sex in the back of a class without the teacher knowing, and the events in Chicago with the freshman students being indoctrinated into the homosexual lifestyle, and one should easily see the need for privatization.
