Fairness Doctrine is Government Control

Hey, I’m back for some quick commentary on the “Fairness Doctrine!”

Amanda Carpenter with Townhall.com is reporting on the increasing pressure by Democrats to reinstitute the so called “fairness doctrine.” (click here to read the full article)

To sum it up, the fairness doctrine essentially forces a radio station that has a conservative personality to also employ or give air time to a liberal personality.

Americans tune into radio for the purpose of hearing something they like. When they don’t hear what they like, they change the station. It is called choice.

In the article by Amanda Carpenter, there are a number of interesting quotes by Democrats that all amount to the same thing, “The American public won’t listen to liberal radio by choice, so we are going to make them listen by force.” It turns out, this is why Liberals and Democrats do not like the free market – it is because none of their ideas actually gain traction in a free market. America has made a choice when it comes to talk radio, and it is overwhelmingly conservative.

Ironically, if we were truly aiming to be fair, we would apply the fairness doctrine across the board – in our schools, colleges, and many other institutions. Sadly, again the Democrats choose control over choice in these areas as well. The real fairness doctrine is to let people choose. In talk radio, they already have.
